CHAPTER TWELVE

Knox

“I’m doing this because you asked it of me.” I nuzzled Zara’s hair as she lay in my arms.

“She’s our friend.” Zara tightened her arm around my waist. “I don’t have your sharp senses, but I can see that she’s a shadow of herself.”

My mate was concerned about Sarita. So worried that she’d come up with a plan that she’d shared with the Queen. In a few hours, Graham, Ghost, and I were taking the Novus plane to Idaho to fetch Sarita’s mate, Adam, if he was willing, and kidnap if he wasn’t.

“How are you going to tell her?” I was curious. Sarita and Olivia were going to stay with Zara while I was away.

“I don’t have a plan. It’s not like I can say, pass the chicken, and by the way, Knox is bringing Adam home.”

“Be cautious. Sarita is very private. I’ve heard that she had very few friends before you arrived.”

“She can get mad, and if she does…she can go home and pout. Olivia will stay. Uri and I will be fine.”

I made a rumbling sound deep in my chest. I did not like being away from her, especially while she was carrying our son.

“Knox, you saved me from what would’ve been a nightmare. You knew my stepfather wanted me and would have stopped at nothing to get me into his bed. You shot him. You freed me. Now, I want to help Sarita. She’s scared, and she’s had too much time to think. She’s convinced herself that he doesn’t want her.”

“Zara, you’ve never met the man,” I reminded her.

“I don’t need to.” She lifted her head from my chest and scooted slightly to adjust her position. “I know what we have. The love and the trust. I want your touch and miss it when you are away. Having you in my life makes everything better. She says that they are… So, I know that he wants to be with her. He might not understand the need, but he feels it.”

“Honey…”

She cut me off. “Knox, he doesn’t know what she is. He doesn’t know anything about the bond. He almost died, then he woke up to find out that somebody he knew shot him, and his family lied to him. I worry about him. He must feel so alone, and he doesn’t have to. She loves him, Knox. I know you can feel it.”

“How did you get so smart?” I meant, how did she know me so well and still love me.

“You’re a good teacher, and you don’t lie to me.”

“Zara…you are my everything.” I kissed her.

“I know that, too.” She giggled as she moved my hand to the side of her round belly to feel our son’s kicks.
